Few other composers in Australia or anywhere else can boast that their music has been heard as part of the opening ceremony of the Sydney Olympics, as the occasional theme to Philip Adams cerebral late night talk fest on Radio National and in a Lloyds' Bank commercial. Elena Kats-Chernin is not only one of Australia's most eclectic composers - her output ranges from opera to miniatures and often showcases her off-beat take - but also one of the most prolific. She frequently has up to six compositions on the go simultaneously. Following the great success of her Artist-in-Residency last year, we are delighted to welcome her back in 2012. Amy Dickson recently released a new recording, in which she re-defines the saxophone as a classical instrument through her choice of indisputably beautiful and innovative repertoire, including Glass's Violin Concerto No.1.
