Australian soprano Celeste Lazarenko has Masters Degrees in performance from both the Guildhall London, and the Sydney Conservatorium. Celeste’s many awards include the Countess of Munster Award, The Australian Music Foundation Award, The Marten Bequest and she was a finalist in the Kathleen Ferrier Competition 2005.
Whilst at the Guildhall, Celeste’s roles included the Governess from Britten’s Turn of the Screw as part of the Kiev Festival, Barbarina in the English premiere of The Little Green Swallow by Jonathan Dove, Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), Rosina (La Finta Semplice) and Nanetta (Falstaff).
Celeste’s European engagements included Ninfa (L’Orfeo) for Opera North, Hydrogen Jukebox by Phillip Glass for Angers/Nantes Opera Company, Celia (Lucio Silla) Angers Nantes and Opera de Rennes, The Seasons for Dijon Opera, Morgana (Alcina) for English Touring Opera, Sandrina (La finta giardiniera) for Opera de Bauge, and Mary in Vaughan Williams’ Hugh the Drover for East Sussex Opera Company. Celeste also worked extensively for English National Opera while living in London covering the title role of Partenope, the role of Nora (Riders to the Sea), the soprano solo (Luonnotar), Clemence (L’Amour de Loin) and Polissena (Radamisto).
Since returning to Australia she has performed Donna Anna in Don Giovanni for Opera Australia’s Ozopera tour, Kate Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly (Opera Australia’s Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour), Medea (Giasone) and Telaire (Castor et Pollux) for Pinchgut Opera, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte for Pacific Opera, Brahms’ German Requiem for Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, Beethoven’s Symphony No.9 with the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra, Mendelssohn’s St Paul, Verdi Requiem and Bowen’s An Australian War Requiem with Sydney University Graduate Choir, as well as excerpts from Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater in the Australian Ballet’s Vanguard.
2015 engagements will include Pamina in The Magic Flute for Opera Australia’s OzOpera tour and Leonore in L’amant jaloux (Grétry) for Pinchgut Opera.
