Mozart performed his Piano Concerto No.19 at the coronation festival of Emperor Leopold II, but we think it will make you feel like royalty when you hear its warm beauty.
Australian pianist, Simon Tedeschi - described as “true greatness” by Sydney Morning Herald - joins us at the keyboard.
The heart of this concert is The Firebird; this astonishing orchestral suite of ballet music tells the story of a prince who is aided by an enchanted bird. It is regarded as one of the great masterpieces, not just of ballet, but of all orchestral music. It is fiery in music and sound, and we plan to thrill every listener in the Concert Hall!
Queensland Symphony Orchestra was looking forward to working with conductor Elena Schwarz at this weekend's concerts of Firebird. However, due to the current COVID travel restrictions between Queensland and New Zealand, she was unable to travel to Brisbane to conduct. Elena and QSO are all disappointed at this turn of events, and we will seek to work with her at the next available opportunity.
QSO is very grateful to Umberto Clerici, who recently conducted our Musical Landscapes concert to great acclaim, for making himself available at short notice to conduct this week's concerts.
