Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful of Mozart’s Masses, hence its title of the Great Mass, this work is a particular joy for the soprano voice.

Unusually this was not a commission for Mozart, who was a ‘jobbing’ composer; it was written for his own musical pleasure, and begun, in part, as a celebration of his marriage to Constanze who was one of the soloists in an early performance.

The wit and brilliance of Beethoven’s First Symphony, peppered with classic Beethovian gestures, complements an evening that will be indeed, great.

The Father, the Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
And of all things, seen and unseen;
And in one Lord Jesus Christ,
Only begotten Son of God,
And born of the Father
Before all worlds.
God from God, light from light,
True God from True God,
Begotten, not made,
Of one being with the Father,
By whom all things were made.
Who for us and for our salvation
Came down from heaven.
