Conductor Alondra de la Parra
Soloist Paul Lewis, piano
Grieg Piano Concerto in A minor
Tchaikovsky Symphony No.5 in E minor
Passionate and poetic, Grieg’s piano concerto is a gem. Soloist and orchestra are woven into a luxurious coherence. After a crisp orchestral cue, the soloist executes a torrent of descending chords. A wistful oboe solo is passed to the piano and reveals the close alliance between soloist and orchestra. Delight in Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony. With its romantic tunes, striking instrumental colours, balletic eloquence, and explosive peaks there’s plenty to enjoy.
