IN CONVERSATION – SHLOMO MINTZ
Plus… AT THE BALLET and SHAKE, RATTLE + BLOW!
Drumroll please… this March the Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) will deliver a month of magnificent masterpieces, with the official introduction of incoming Soloist-in-Residence, the internationally acclaimed virtuoso violinist Shlomo Mintz, a definite highlight.
Music lovers, orchestra aficionados and those new to the theatre of sound will be spoilt for choice with the opportunity to hear Shlomo Mintz in full flight on Friday March 13 in the Morning Masterworks concert, again on Saturday March 14 in the first Maestro concert of Season 2015, and then the following Thursday in the up close and personal In Conversation event at the QSO Studio, South Bank.
Fritzsch & Shlomo Mintz is the title of QSO’s first Maestro concert and what a combination - performing for the first time in his official new capacity as Soloist-in-Residence, Shlomo Mintz will join the Orchestra with Conductor Laureate and former Chief Conductor Johannes Fritzsch.
The grandiose solitude of Sibelius’ 1905 Violin Concerto, along with Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite No.1, and R. Strauss’ Also Sprach Zarathustra, are the perfect showpieces for this exciting collaboration between QSO’s two biggest names. For those who prefer a daylight affair, this program will also be performed on Friday March 13 at 11am to mark the beginning of the much-loved Morning Masterworks Series for the year.
A few days later, on Thursday March 19, Shlomo Mintz will join the QSO as guest speaker for In Conversation; where guests will gain a deeper insight into the man behind the music.
As well as being The Month of Mintz, March is also the month of masterworks for QSO, with the Orchestra pirouetting into action in fine fashion on Sunday March 8 with At The Ballet. Featuring enchanting melodies from classics like Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Coppélia and Giselle, At the Ballet will showcase some of the world’s most well-known ballet scores in a truly delightful musical morning. Always one to go out with a bang, or in this case a rattle and a blow, the musical month is rounded out with Shake, Rattle + Blow!, to launch the new QSO Family program.
The Soloist-in-Residence program is supported by the T & J St Baker Charitable Trust.
