QSOCurrent 2016 Announced | ft. Sampology & more
Media Release ·
Three world premieres over two days starring music’s most wanted.
Last year QSOCurrent reset the dial with internationally acclaimed beatboxer Tom Thum performing off the rails music with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra under the incredibly talented baton of composer Gordon Hamilton; and this year the program is set to break even more new ground.
QSOCurrent has today announced the 2016 two-day program will feature three world premieres performed by the absolute flag-bearers of genre-busting sound creation.
Tom Thum, now officially Artist-in-Residence for QSOCurrent 2016, leads the line-up, which reads of new music’s most wanted – one of the world’s most renowned audio visual artists in Sampology; the acclaimed Australian new music ensemble which pushes the barrow to places not even discovered yet in Kupka’s Piano, the popular saxophonist and composer in Rafael Karlen, the cross-disciplinary artists from Brisbane in Argo, along with some of the most exciting music makers in the country.
This musical cocktail is shaken and stirred by Tom Thum with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Gordon Hamilton. It’s a potent, brave concoction that promises extraordinary music.
To celebrate the program announcement, one of the most popular tracks from 2015 - Polish Your Brass from Thum Prints - has been released for free download here qso.com.au/tomthum.
“We believe in collaboration with contemporary artists from Australia and across the world; and where the experimental and innovative does not exist, we will create it or commission it ourselves,” said Richard Wenn, QSO's Director – Artistic Planning.
