Young Professional Circle

A Night Before Christmas - 7 December 2017

Our first official social event for our Young Professional Circle Members and their guests was hosted by David Jones James Street in their new store in Fortitude Valley.  Store Manager Tiffany Hall took us through a capsule collection that would take us from day to night…. from Christmas Eve through to Christmas Day and the all important New Year’s Eve.  Harry from Dior showed us how to achieve ‘dream skin’ and how minimal makeup could create maximum impact, Jake from Jo Malone then showed us some of the special packages we could consider as presents.  Twenty of our new Young Professional Circle members enjoyed a night to be remembered including the opportunity to sample the new Sparkling Rosé from our wonderful partners, Sirromet Winery.  Our Young Professional Circle members were joined by Queensland Symphony Orchestra musicians Brenda Sullivan and Kathryn Close.

Thank you

Carmen In-Concert - 25 November 2017

To celebrate the conclusion of our 70th anniversary, Queensland Symphony Orchestra presented Bizet's Carmen, in concert, with an international cast and Australia's best young singers under the musical direction of Alondra de la Parra.  Thank you to the Lisa Gasteen National Opera School, Opera Queensland Chorus, Voices of Birralee, and Queensland Ballet.

QSO, Alondra and Vengerov - 17 & 18 November 2017

We are forever grateful to Barnabas Kelemen for taking up the challenge at the last minute to perform the Brahms Concerto with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra when Maxim Vengerov was unable to perform due to family illness. We were delighted as Barnabas Kelemen charmed us all at both performances.  Be sure to see him perform again on March 8 at Maestro 2 - Epic Visions.

Maestro 10 - QSO and Piers Lane - 14 October 2017

This performance saw the return of  Piers Lane.  A definite favourite of Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Brisbane audiences, Piers Lane delighted patrons with his astounding interpretation of the Moszkowski Piano Concerto No 1.  The audience showed their appreciation with a standing ovation.  To add to that was the Tchaikovsky Fancesca da Rimini  and the Dvořák Symphony No 7.  Certainly a night to remember.

Maestro 9 - QSO Plays the Romantics - 24 September 2017

Romance reigned supreme at the Maestro 9 performance with Queensland Symphony Orchestra presenting a double bill of great nineteenth century Romantic works.  Our viola soloist, Antoine Tamestit performed Berlioz's great work - Harold in Italy.  Antoine moved around the orchestra just like Byron's hero Harold did through the wild Abruzzi mountains and villages of Italy.  What a night of true romance emphasised by the lush performances of Viola extraordinaire, Antoine Tamestit and your orchestra, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

Maestro 8 - QSO, Alondra and Mahler 5 - 25 August 2017

Queensland Symphony Orchestra prides itself with supporting young musicians and debuting soloists in Australia.  This performance was no different with the Australian debut of Jan Lisiecki known internationally as the 'aristocrat of the piano', playing the Piano Concerto No. 20 in D Minor.  The night concluded with Kenneth Kiesler continuing the Queensland Symphony Orchestra's Mahler journey with Mahler's Symphony No 5.
