Tanks Arts Centre, set in the Cairns Botanic Gardens Precinct, is just four kilometres north of the Cairns city centre. This heritage listed site combines history, nature and culture for a visitor experience with a difference.
Tanks takes its name from the past as it is very literally comprised of three concrete fuel tanks built during World War II and set amidst a lush rainforest backdrop. Creative hands remoulded the military facility into a distinctive contemporary arts space, which opened in 1995 and presents a yearly program of visual arts, live music, theatre, workshops and markets.
Tanks Arts Centre is fully wheelchair accessible with compliant graded paths and access points. Accessible bathrooms are located beside Tank 5.
