Hayden Mears

Hayden Mears discovered his passion for the bassoon during high school when he first found the instrument in his schools storage room and hasn’t put it down since. Under the tutelage of current Associate Principal Bassoonist of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, David Mitchell, Hayden has gone on to win the 2023 Australian Double Reed Society Competition as well as gaining experience nationally and internationally as an orchestral bassoonist.

Hayden has performed with the Queensland Youth Symphony, Australian Youth Orchestra, Queensland Conservatorium Symphony orchestra, Ensemble Q and Queensland Symphony Orchestra. In 2023, Hayden attended the QYS International Tour as Principal Bassoon to Singapore, Austria and Germany, which saw him perform in some of the world’s most well known concert halls such as the Singapore Esplanade Concert Hall, Vienna’s Musikverein and the Mozarteum Great Hall in Salzburg. Following the tour Hayden continued his travels through Germany, receiving lessons and taking part in a week long intensive held by world renowned bassoon performer and pedagogue, Dag Jensen. Hayden hopes to further his studies in Germany in the future.
