Shelby Devenish

Shelby Devenish (b. 2002) is an emerging Australian composer, performer, and winner of the 2022 Australian Women’s Wind Band Composition Award. She started her musical journey as a vocalist and pianist, and later found her passion for composition, drawing inspiration from contemporary classical, minimalist, and folk styles of music. Most recently her work An Exploration in Freedom had its world premiere at the 2023 World Saxophone Congress in Spain by soloist Isaac Reed. She has also premiered new works with the Queensland Wind Orchestra, the Riverside Guitar Ensemble, and the Brian Hogg Wind Orchestra. Her music has been featured in film and television projects for the Griffith Film School and in film festivals such as the 2023 Vision Splendid Film Festival in Winton, Queensland and the Indie Short Fest in Los Angeles. Guided by award winning composer, Dr. Nicole Murphy, Shelby attained her Bachelor of Music majoring in Composition from the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University (QCGU) and is continuing as a Bachelor of Music (Honours) candidate at QCGU for 2024.
