Pelham Andrews trained in Australia, the UK and Germany, and is a graduate of the Cardiff International Academy of Voice and Adelaide University. A former Young Artist of the State Opera of South Australia, Pelham has performed extensively with that company in the roles of Padre Guardiano (La forza del Destino), Colline (La Bohème), Zuniga (Carmen), Nourabad (Les Pêcheurs de Perles), Friedrich Bhaer (the Australian premiere of Mark Adamo’s Little Women), Count Ribbing (Un Ballo in Maschera), Jake Wallace (La Fanciulla del West), the Mandarin (Turandot), Count Ceprano (Rigoletto), the Imperial Commissioner (Madama Butterfly) and the Stationmaster (Blake's The Station).
Pelham has sung Méphistophélès (La Damnation de Faust) and the King of Bambaras (Angelique) for Victorian Opera, and for Opera Australia he has appeared as Baron Douphol (La Traviata), Zoroastro (Orlando) and Second Mate (Billy Budd). He has also performed throughout Australia, Malaysia and Singapore with touring company Co-Opera, and won several awards including the McDonalds Operatic Aria.
As a concert soloist, Pelham has been engaged by the Sydney Philharmonia, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, Auckland Choral, Napier Civic Choir, Manukau Symphony and Melbourne Bach Choir as well as many smaller ensembles. His repertoire includes the Verdi Requiem, Haydn Creation, Handel Messiah, Beethoven Symphony No.9, Mozart Requiem, Fauré Requiem, Mozart and Beethoven Masses, and Cantatas by Bach. He is also an accomplished and passionate interpreter of song repertoire.
Pelham’s 2014 engagements included the roles of Speaker in The Magic Flute, Monterone and Sparafucile in Rigoletto, and Lodovico in Otello for Opera Australia and for State Opera of South Australia.
Next year Pelham will return to Opera Australia where his performance and cover responsibilities will include the title role in The Marriage of Figaro, Timur (Turandot), King (Aida), Masetto (Don Giovanni) Baron Douphol (La Traviata) and Deputy (Don Carlos).
