Classical Music Learning Opportunities

Queensland Symphony Orchestra's concerts, workshops and open rehearsals for schools, teachers, families and individuals provide an introduction to classical music and lifelong learning for budding musicians.

Professional Development 

A champion of lifelong learning and the arts in schools, Queensland Symphony Orchestra takes an active role in supporting music teachers and educators. Our musicians can present sessions on a range of topics.

2018 Music Teachers Professional Development Day
Monday 22 October 2018
Queensland Symphony Orchestra Studio, South Bank
8.30am to 4pm

The program will include:

  • Warm up techniques, rehearsal and QandA for each instrumental family and choir with Queensland Symphony Orchestra musicians, Opera Queensland musicians and Department of Education Project Officers.
  • Presentation of the 2019 learning programs for Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Opera Queensland and Open Conservatorium and including a performance by Queensland Symphony Orchestra education ensemble.
  • Classroom music and instrumental music pedagogy and curriculum workshop and planning.

Open Rehearsals

Come behind the scenes and watch Queensland Symphony Orchestra musicians perfect their craft in readiness for a performance. Be in the studio on Thursday 2 August to see the Queensland Symphony Orchestra with Music Director and Conductor Alondra de la Parra rehearsing Stravinsky Dumbarton Oaks. Watch as the Orchestra perfects the bustling themes reminiscent of Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos but with Stravinsky’s shifting meters, syncopation and tonalities.
