Michael Gibson

Born and raised in Brisbane, Michael Gibson’s journey as a cellist has led to him studying and performing in venues all across the world. He has been a participant at many chamber music festivals, including the Icicle Creek Festival in Washington, Musical Chairs Festival in Montréal, Ticino Musica in Switzerland and International Sommerakademie in Germany. Closer to home, he has performed with the Queensland Symphony, most recently as a member of the Ring Cycle Orchestra, as well as with Ensemble Q, the Australian Youth Orchestra and the Queensland Youth Symphony. Following the completion of his Bachelor of Music at the Queensland Conservatorium, he travelled to Hamburg, Germany to undertake further postgraduate studies with Tanja Tetzlaff at the Hamburg Hochschule für Musik und Theater. He has had many other inspiring mentors over the years, including his previous teachers Trish Dean, Meta Weiss and Melissa Dineen.
